Bridges

Bridges

Bridges are an option to replace a missing tooth. It consists of an artificial tooth attached to crowns on either side of the missing tooth. It is a fixed option in that it is not removed from the mouth as opposed to dentures which are removal and need to be taken out and cleaned regularly. Patients prefer and adapt a bridge much better than a denture.

The procedure for making a bridge is quite complex and labor intensive and thus this is reflective in the costs. It is usually completed over 2 appointments with the first being the preparation and impression appointment. This involves the dentist precisely shaping the teeth adjacent to the missing tooth with burs and instruments and subsequently taking an impression which is sent off to a dental lab. In the interim, the dentist will fit your teeth with temporary crowns while your bridge is being manufactured in the lab. At the second appointment the dentist will place your bridge ensuring an absolutely precise fit.
